Hippocampi is the working title for CIA’s new independent project - a curatorial collaboration between freelance curator Danielle Olsen and CIA’s Sarah Wang. Up to 13 taxi huts across central London will be transformed into spaces for art or art works themselves. Taking inspiration from the city, the taxi huts, black cabs and their drivers, these often overlooked social hubs will provide a catalyst for new work by diverse international artists. Whilst the project is still in development and artists TBC, we envisage artwork will include, exhibitions, installations, and interventions, amongst other things, in a range of media including sound, performance, film and video. Some huts will provide refreshments, maps and souvenirs too. Visitors will be encouraged to journey from one space to the next by foot, bicycle or even horse and carriage to see the artwork and explore the city along the way. The project has recently received a Grant for the Arts from Arts Council England for research and development and is due to launch in summer 2013.
