The CIA worked with the GLA from 2006-2011 to manage the art commissioning process for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, one of the most high profile public art programmes in the UK.

We were pleased to be part of the longlisting and shortlisting process for the next two commissions for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square - Elmgreen & Dragset's Powerless Structures, Fig. 101, which is currently on display and Katharina Fritsch'sHahn/Cock. which will be installed on in 2013.

The other shortlisted artists were: Mariele Neudecker, Brian Griffiths, Hew Locke and Allora and Calzadilla.

The CIA facilitated the selection and realisation of artworks by major contemporary artists for the Fourth Plinth including Thomas Schütte’s Hotel for the Birds, Anthony Gormley’s One and Other and the Yinka Shonibare commission, Nelson’s Ship in a Bottle, which was unveiled in May 2010.

In addition, CIA developed and managed the Fourth Plinth Schools and Public programme. The Schools Programme is an opportunity for primary and secondary schools across Greater London to engage with the ideas relating to art in the public realm in a competition to present their unique vision for the Plinth. The competition culminates in an awards ceremony for the winners and displays of the entries both at City Hall and online on the Fourth Plinth website.

The Public Programmes have included talks about the proposals, art workshops for diverse communities in London (including  refugees, older people and young parents) and a conference.
